Crisis support commands

Mellow can screen text for signs of distress and respond with graded support and resources. It does not scan every message in a server. Screening runs on:

/crisis analyze
the "Check on this message" message context-menu command
DMs to Mellow
messages that mention or reply to Mellow
your own messages, only if you opt in with /preferences set crisis_detection:true

Crisis levels

The AI classifies text into one of:

Level	Meaning	Response
none	No indicators	Normal conversation.
low	Mild stress, transient	Gentle support and coping resources.
medium	Persistent distress	Active support, resources, and a nudge toward professional help.
high	Serious risk indicators	Mellow leads with a fixed, reviewed safety message and hotlines. Alerts moderators if enabled.
critical	Immediate danger	Fixed safety message, emergency resources, moderator alert if enabled.

For high and critical, Mellow does not improvise: it opens with reviewed safety copy and verified hotline information, then offers to keep talking. See

). Without a country you get a general list. The same country-matched numbers are used whenever Mellow shows crisis resources, including the private replies for Check on this message and /crisis analyze.

If you have a safety plan, it is shown below the resources. Only you can see it.

Supported countries: Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Netherlands, New Zealand, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Hotline numbers are maintained by the team and are never written by the AI.

A personal plan for hard moments, written while you are feeling okay. It has six sections:

Warning signs - thoughts, feelings, or situations that tell you things are getting hard
Things I can do on my own - what helps you calm down or take your mind off things
People and places that help me feel better
People I can ask for help - names and how to reach them
Professionals and services to contact - a therapist, doctor, or helpline, with numbers
Making my space safer

Right-click or long-press any message, then Apps -> Check on this message. Mellow screens that single message's content (no intent required) and replies privately with an assessment and resources if needed.

Moderator alerts

When crisis_alerts is enabled for a server (/guildsettings set crisis_alerts:true, on by default) and an alert channel is set (mod_alert_channel), Mellow posts a short alert there when a high or critical signal comes up in that server: in a conversation with Mellow, or from /crisis analyze. Direct messages never create alerts.

An alert names the person and links to the message. It never repeats what they wrote and does not ping anyone. The person still receives support resources from Mellow directly. To avoid spam, one person triggers at most one alert per server every ten minutes.

Emergency

Mellow is not an emergency service. If you or someone else is in immediate danger:
