Roadmap
Where Mellow is and where it might go.
Roadmap
This is a direction, not a set of promises. Priorities follow user feedback and maintainer capacity. Track actual progress on the releases page and the changelog.
Now
Mellow has been rewritten from the ground up in Go:
- Zero privileged intents.
- PostgreSQL with
sqlcand versioned migrations. - Anthropic Claude for AI, with fixed fallbacks when it is unavailable.
- Per-field AES-256-GCM encryption, wire-compatible with the previous database.
- Constrained crisis screening (fixed copy for high and critical results).
- Automatic sharding, HTTP API, and an owner-only changelog publisher.
Since then:
- A web dashboardwith Discord sign-in, including data download and deletion.
The Mellow Dashboard
Manage your preferences, Mellow+ status, data, and servers from the web.
- , an optional subscription that adds depth without gating safety.
- A private safety plan, country-matched helplines, guided exercises, quiet hours, and opt-in weekly recaps and daily prompts.
- A public commands page and documentation on its own site.
The moderation commands, keyword auto-moderation, and Twitter/X integration from the old JavaScript bot were removed. Mellow is not a moderation bot.
Near term
- Stabilization: bug fixes, better error messages, more test coverage around crisis screening.
- Documentation upkeep as commands evolve.
- Small quality-of-life improvements to check-ins and coping tools.
Ideas being considered
Not committed, roughly in order of interest:
- Tools for people who run servers, such as scheduled community check-in prompts, extra crisis alert channels, and an activity overview. How these would be offered is still undecided.
- Optional pruning/retention controls for conversation history.
- More coping content and localisation.
Explicitly not planned
- Server moderation, auto-moderation, or content filtering.
- Reading arbitrary server messages (this would require a privileged intent).
- Clinical / EHR integrations, or presenting Mellow as a substitute for professional care.
